Regulatory Authority

Regulatory Authority

ictQATAR’s Regulatory Authority is shaping Qatar’s telecommunications market that balances the rights of consumers with the needs of service providers. We are ensuring that competition thrives in Qatar, bringing benefits to businesses and individuals across the country.

Decree Law Number 34 of 2006 gives ictQATAR a full range of powers to regulate the telecommunications market in Qatar. The Regulatory Authority is liberalizing Qatar’s telecoms market, developing a full regulatory framework to advance healthy market conditions and ensure the respect of consumer rights.

In 2007, ictQATAR achieved one of its earliest goals when the mobile products and services sector was opened to competition. In 2008, the fixed line telecoms market was also liberalized.
