
International Forum Addressed Range of Issues on Future Governance of the Internet
At the recent Internet Government Forum (IGF2010) held in Vilnius, Lithuania, Qatar had an active role in helping shape the future of the internet and provided important regional insight on key issues facing internet governance.

Under the theme "Developing the Future Together," the IGF2010 explored how the Internet can benefit people worldwide and how Internet governance can be a means to achieving development for all. Specific topics addressed included the management of internet resources, openness, privacy, security, access, diversity and emerging issues such as cloud computing.
Mohamed Al Bashir, Section Manager for Numbering, Interconnection & Internet Domain at ictQATAR gave a presentation titled New IDN and gTLD for Development, which addressed the opportunities present with the introduction of Arabic domain names and the challenges faced in implementing the new ccTLD.
ictQATAR Communications Director Howaida Nadim gave a presentation on behalf of ictQATAR Secretary General Dr. Hessa Al Jaber that focused on Qatar's efforts to create a digital content ecosystem and promote the development of more quality Arabic digital content. Also representing Qatar at the IGF2010 were Dr. Eiman Al Ansari from Vodafone Qatar and Dr. John Laprise from Northwestern University-Qatar. More than 1,900 participants from 107 countries attended. Delegations from 79 governments were represented along with participants from the private sector, civil society, the Internet community and the media.
