Q-CERT Becomes Member of International Society of Automation (ISA) Experts Committee

Qatar will have a strong voice in the international community on security standards for Process Control Systems (PCS/SCADA). ictQATAR's Q-CERT, the nation's information security team, has been accepted as a full voting member of the International Society of Automation experts committee tasked with approving PCS/SCADA security standards (ISA-99). Process Control Systems are responsible for managing and operating the most critical parts of modern infrastructure, including oil & gas production, water treatment, aviation controls, and many others. Many of these systems face serious cyber threats that could greatly disrupt vital services.

Mr. Omar Sherin, a member of the Critical Infrastructure Protection department within Q-CERT, who led the effort for membership stated, "We are establishing information risk, industry focused groups which will provide us a vehicle to obtain the views of key players in Qatar, as we move forward. As the first organization in the region to be selected as a member, we are ready to advise and steer these set of standards to take the experience and nuances of the Middle East into consideration, and ensure our voices are heard. We also provide a vendor-neutral viewpoint which will ensure these standards are not influenced by the commercial desires of vendors alone.""
