HE the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani today opened the Qatar Digital Government Forum at the Four Seasons Hotel Doha.

Organized by the Qatar e-Government Steering Committee and attended by HE Minister of Information and Communications Technology, who is also the Chairperson of the E-government Steering Committee Dr. Hessa Al- Jaber, the forum reviewed the progress made on the implementation of Qatar Digital Government Strategy 2020 that was launched by HE the Premier in May 2014.

 The eight Steering Committee member entities, Strategy Management Office members, several government entities, and ICT senior staff were also present.

The forum featured presentations and panel discussions that highlighted the progress made over the last year, efforts being exerted by all government entities and the challenges faced. The forum was also a great platform for proposals and recommendations.

Col. Eng. Abdulrahman Ali Al Malki, the Deputy Chairperson of the e-Government Steering Committee and Deputy Manager of Information Technology Department at the Ministry of the Interior said in a presentation that several achievements have been made since the e-Government Steering Committee was formed. Improved performance, efficiency and enhanced inter-governmental cooperation were remarkable results.

Al Malki noted that Qatar Digital Government Strategy includes an integrated system for digital transformation that supports the achievement of strategic objectives, including ICT infrastructure, common government applications, policies and standards that govern and support the operation of this system.

The total additional eservices that have been launched since the Steering Committee was effective in the fourth quarter of 2013 reached 265 eservices after the eservices plan was endorsed in 38 government entities.  711 eservices are planned by the end of 2015 to take the total number up to 1,000 eservices by the end of 2016, based on the current eservices plans submitted by those entities to the Steering Committee.

The Strategy was launched last year. Several achievements have been registered. Number of eservices provided by government entities increased such as the Customs Clearance Single Window (Al Nadeeb), Metrash 2, and mobile services provided by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP).

Moreover, more than 70 government entities have been linked to the Governmental Network and the number of entities that have joined the Government Contact Center has doubled to 18. Those 18 entities provide about 35 eservices through the Center. The Government Data Center was also established and is currently joined by 12 government entities. The number of entities implementing Qatar’s Government Resource Planning Program (Mawared) also climbed to 39.

Eng. Al Malki displayed examples of some eservices launched by a number of government entities in various sectors like the General Authority of Customs, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the MMUP, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Supreme Council of Health.

He noted that the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ictQATAR) has set up a plan to train and provide local ICT professionals to government institutions, as well as an integrated methodology to measure the digital transformation in order for smooth Strategy execution..

In his closing remarks, HE the Premier and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani expressed pleasure for the accomplishments made on the Qatar e-Government 2020 Strategy over the past year, and praised the efforts exerted by the national professionals, noting that the presentations made by the government entities at the forum reflected the progress in the implementation of the Strategy and highlighted the big role and contributions of those national minds.

HE the Prime Minister said that Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy was launched last year to realize the principle of transparency and increase administrative efficiency, along with the eservices provided to the public and private sectors and individuals.

HE the Premier underlined that the success of Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy needs concerted efforts from all bodies through which the State of Qatar can succeed in overcoming many challenges and obstacles.
